English Summary/英文概要: Far more serious than simple “bad dreams,” night terrors are a condition that can be potentially devastating. Affecting both children and adults, night terrors cause sufferers to kick, scream, strike out violently, and injure themselves during the sleep cycle. Sufferers may leave their beds and exit the home without waking, and yet have no recollection of this behavior the next morning. Not surprisingly, those afflicted can experience severe and long-lasting physical and psychological damage—and their parents, siblings, and spouses are often left fearful and exhausted.
Written by a longtime victim of night terrors who finally found relief and the highly experienced therapist who helped end his torment, this meticulously researched and compassionate guide provides concrete help and advice for a stressful and surprisingly common disorder. Parents will discover how to help their children understand and resolve their nightmares and Type A night terrors, which typically fade away without professional intervention. Type B disorders, caused by trauma, are more severe and long-lasting, and Carranza and Dill outline the most effective therapeutic approaches, the pros and cons of medication, and the steps sufferers can take to speed their own recovery.

About the Author/作者介绍: Christopher Raoul Carranza had suffered chronic night terror attacks since infancy, but despite professional help, was unable to find effective relief. He has devoted the past fifteen years to conducting his own exploration of the condition, analyzing data from researchers around the world and developing his own program of treatment. The results of Mr. Carranza’s research have been nothing short of amazing, and for the first time in his life, he is free of night terrors. Mr. Carranza writes extensively on nightmares and night terrors, and conducts seminars on the disorder along with Dr. Dill. He lives in Orange County, California, with his wife and three children. Jane Rogers Dill, Ph.D., L.M.F.T., D.A.P.A., holds a Bachelor’s degree in sociology and religion, a Master’s degree in psychology, and a Doctorate in education, curriculum, and instruction. For the past twenty-four years, she has been in private practice in California as a marriage, family, and child therapist. Additionally, Dr. Dill has spent thirty years as a high school teacher, twenty years as an adjunct instructor on the subjects of marriage, the family, and human sexuality, and six years as a health trauma consultant. She is the recipient of many awards, including the President’s Award of the California Council on Family Relations. She lives in California’s San Bernardino Mountains near her children and grandchildren.
